Adelante! enjoyed being part of Scotch Plains/Fanwood Public Library’s “Big Read” series on Saturday May 11th, 2013.  The band did one set from 1-2pm and performed a mix of material including Chano Pozo’s “Tin Tin Deo”, the Salsa standard “Bilongo/La Negra Tomassa” (with a new arrangement), our lead singer David Oquendo’s composition & arrangement “Mayeya”, the all time fave Dominican merengue “Compadre Pedro Juan” and the fast Tito Rodriguez mambo “Mama Guela” from the Palladium era (which we did an Adelante! update on).  We even got some dancers out….. the first time this writer has ever seen mambo dancing and merengue’ing in within 20 feet of a Library Reference Desk!  For an encore, Adelante! did a jam on the Eddie Palmieri classic from the La Perfecta days, “Vamanos P’al Monte”.  We thank Pam Brooks and the staff at Scotch Plains/Fanwood Public Library for having us and for the enthusiastic crowd that listened and danced to our music.
